My love of woodworking was sparked at a young age and became reignited years later when pondering a new direction in life. I asked myself what it was that I have always enjoyed doing and working with wood had always been a passion, but I had never considered actually making a living off it. I required more training and I gravitated towards a more traditional path; I wanted to learn the finer skills from refined teaching and tutelage by esteemed master furniture makers. This brought me to Inside Passage School of Fine Woodworking in Roberts Creek, BC. The curriculum was most challenging, humbling and rewarding. I owe the lion’s share of my skills to these people and I feel very grateful to have been afforded the gift of this training.
Growing up in Vancouver, BC near to the forest, ocean and mountains have bequeathed great appreciation and respect of nature and the biodiversity that surrounds me. I also spent my summers on a small Gulf Island with dirt roads, no cars and wonderful relatives that let me and my cousin run wild only to come back to eat and sleep. This has left an indelible mark on my spirit.
I like to develop and construct pieces that serve an important purpose in this modern life. They are to be made of high quality solid wood, refined in style and built to last.
I stand firmly against the making of disposable products. We Earthlings have not been responsible in the stewardship of this planet's resources or habitat for other living organisms.
It begins with personal accountability.
If my products are no longer of use to you, please pass them on, use for firewood or compost them. Easy. Hopefully you won’t have to do that because they can last for decades.
I fiddle with things, I make things and I also fix things. This is part of my wholistic approach to creating. If it’s broken, why not fix it? If you can’t fix it, why not make something better? If I can keep it out of the garbage I consider that winning.
